KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

ST. JOSEPH THE WORKMAN COUNCIL 17689

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded 130 years ago by the Venerable Father Michael McGivney at St. Mary’s parish in New Haven, CT, the Knights uphold four key principles as pillars of the order: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

Today, the Order has grown to over 1.9 Million members, more than 55,000 here in the state of Florida. Our resources are utilized to support countless causes, programs, and parishes all over the world and most importantly in our local communities.

Knights are called to serve others and that is why our first principle is Charity – at home with our families and in our communities.

When Knights of Columbus members come together as one through their council and parish, they accomplish great things. Our charitable programs such as Coats for Kids, Food for Families, the Ultrasound Initiative, Global Wheelchair Mission, and Habitat for Humanity are just a few of the many charities we support in addition to those in our local communities.

The Knights of Columbus Council No. 17689 is pleased to announce our 2nd

Annual Ed Underwood scholarship award. Our hope is that these awards help recognize

our deserving local students and assist them financially in their academic pursuits. The

competition is open this year to any graduating senior from St. Rita Catholic Church

scheduled for graduation in May 2025.

This organization provides men with a vehicle for building up the parish community and family life, with an emphasis on family, youth, church, council, and community activities. Open to any practicing Catholic man over 18. Knights undertake a large variety of service and social activities in the parish.
