The Ceremony
Ceremony Preparation The
couple and the priest will plan the actual ceremony. The booklet,
Together For Life,
written by Joseph M. Champlin (Ave Maria Press, Notre Dame, IN),
will be provided to couples to help them choose readings and prayers
for the ceremony.
Visiting Celebrant If the celebrant of your wedding is a priest
other than our pastor, the diocese requires that you submit
the name of the priest to the parish office so that references may
be obtained from his home diocese. In the case of a visiting celebrant, you will
be required to hire a sacristan through the parish office.
The sacristan will be responsible for opening and closing the church
and assisting and orienting the visiting priest to our facility. A
fee will be charged for this service. Please call the parish
office for details.
Wedding Rehearsal Wedding rehearsals are usually conducted the
evening before the wedding. All those taking part in the ceremony
should be present for this practice. Arriving on time is
essential. The rehearsal should last no more than one hour.
The Day of the Wedding Since St. Rita does not have facilities for
applying make-up, hair preparation, or dressing, the bridal party
must arrive at the church ready to begin the celebration. Modest attire is required in the church. Some
dresses require shawls or other types of covering to ensure modesty
(i.e., to cover bare shoulders, etc.).
Wedding Coordinators and Wedding Planners We have wedding coordinators available to
assist you. Call the parish office to make arrangements if you wish
to hire one. There will be a fee based on the services required. If you are hiring an outside wedding
planner, please instruct this person to call the church office to
ensure that your plans are in accord with the requirements and
teaching of the Catholic Church as well as the regulations of St.
Rita.
Wedding programs must be approved by the pastor before being
printed.
