Music

Everything about the wedding ceremony should witness to all those present that you are entering a sacred, holy union that is a sacrament.  Therefore, all elements of the service, including the music, call for careful planning.  Music selected for a wedding should be religious in nature.  Some secular selections are allowed but must be approved by the pastor.

Organist and other musicians
It is preferred that you use St. Rita’s organist.  If you are planning to use an organist or musicians from outside St. Rita, contact Kitty Boe, Director of Music Liturgy before hiring them so that we can ensure that the music and style will be appropriate for this religious ceremony.

We can provide you with contact information if you desire musicians other than an organist (i.e. violin, harp, flute, bagpipes, trumpet).  It will be your responsibility to make financial arrangements and hire them.

Cantors and vocalists
St. Rita has qualified cantors and vocalists on staff or you may provide your own cantor or vocalist. If you are having a Mass, the liturgy requires that many of the sacred texts be sung (ideally by the entire assembly).  It will be necessary for you to have an organist and a cantor.  If you are using a cantor from outside St. Rita, the cantor must be familiar with the Catholic liturgy and know the liturgical songs that are part of the Mass.

There may be an increase in the organist’s fee if extra rehearsal time is needed with vocalists and cantors.  Fees for St. Rita’s organist and vocalists or cantors are payable 3 weeks before the wedding.
