Lectors Handbook

Constitution on the Lectors proclaim the Word of the Lord at Mass. The Sacred Liturgy states,

“Jesus is present in his word; it is he himself who speaks when the holy scriptures are read in church.”

The Ministry of a Lector is both profoundly simple and sublime, for the words proclaimed are not just ink on a page; they are the living, breathing, presence of God. They are “achieving the salvation they describe, even as the reader proclaims them.“
God’s loving call to all people refreshes and renews our faith in His promises. And, reminds us anew that “our God is a promise-maker and a promise-keeper.”
