Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist
Distribution of Holy Communion may be delegated to certain members of the lay faithful.
Those who are delegated to assist the clergy in distribution are designated as "Extraordinary ministers."
‘“Extraordinary ministers”……should distinguish themselves by their Christian lives, faith and morals:
Let them strive to be worthy of this great office;
Let them cultivate devotion to the Holy Eucharist;
Let them show themselves as examples to other faithful by their piety and reverence for the most Holy Sacrament of the Altar;
Let no one be chosen who selection may cause scandal among the faithful.“’ ( Immensae Caritatis, Paul VI, 29 January 1973)
